La Sistina di Michelangelo
The catalogue to this exhibition, one of the most original and significant ever held at Casa Buonarroti, offers a new perspective on the work of the Renaissance genius, particularly the Sistine Chapel, exploring not only its artistic value but also the impact it has had over time on visual and media culture.
The volume discusses how this work has been interpreted, reproduced and experienced over the centuries by artists, scholars and the public, becoming a universal symbol. It also recalls the interest shown by many scholars in Michelangelo and the centenary celebrations in 1875, which helped to spread his art through photographs and souvenirs.
The exhibition highlights how the Sistine Chapel has been depicted in various different media, from photography to cinema, and shows, through some sixty works, ranging from Michelangelo's precious autograph drawings kept in the Casa Buonarroti museum to contemporary pop experiences, how art can arouse deep emotions and become part of our collective heritage.
