The Nudes from the Medici Venus to the Urbino Venus
The author proposes an interesting and well-thought selection of masterpieces of the Uffizi Gallery whose subject is the nude. From the Medici Venus, graceful and modest statue, she examines the different and wide typologies and concepts linked to the nude in art. Sculpture and painting, the theme of the nude is seen as expression of power and virility, with in particular the nude male, product of careful anatomic studies with Rosso Fiorentino and above all with Michelangelo. Then the author examines the artistic nude in holy art to reach at last Tiziano Vecellio, whose extraordinary works Venus and Flora conclude this fecund artistic journey with a winking and mischievous gesture.
