This book is a fascinating journey into eighteenth-century musical Europe.

After a glimpse of musical life in Venice, the narrative brings the reader into the life and activity of one of the most talented musical figures of the eighteenth century, Maria Laura Sirmen Lombardini. Singer, composer, violinist, was among the most excellent pupils of the great Giuseppe Tartini.

Famous for being the recipient of a letter that Tartini wrote and that has become fundamental for the treatises for violins, Lombardini was also a witty composer. 

At the end of this journey a singular analysis of the Six Trios with two violins and cellos, which the musician first published in 1769.

The author

Luisa Di Menna, graduated in violin at the Conservatory "L. Cherubini" in Florence and in baroque violin with the highest marks and praise at the Conservatory "B. Maderna" in Cesena, she obtained a diploma of High Orchestral Specialization at the Teatro alla Scala Academy in Milan and graduated at the Music Academy "L. Perosi di Biella". She then earned her Master’s degree in Interpretation and Violin Performance at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana under the guidance of Mr. C. Chiarappa.

Collaborating with several orchestras, she played under the direction of such masters as R. Muti, D. Oren, P. Steinberg and Lu Jia.  She usually performs and has performed with various groups of ancient music. She has recorded for Hyperion, Naxos, Glossa, Ema Vinci and Brilliant classic. She has played for Radio Svizzera Italiana, Radio Rai, Radio Vaticana, Felicjia Blumental Festival in Tel Aviv, Festival Contemporaneamente Barocco in Siena, Amici della Musica in Florence, Festival Anima Mundi, I concerti della Normale, Festival Cusiano di Musica Antica and others.

She graduated with honours in Cinema Musica and Theatre at the University of Pisa.
