La Cattura di Cristo da Caravaggio
The publication of this volume takes place on the occasion of the restoration and presentation of an autograph version of Caravaggio’s The Capture of Christ, recovered in an external warehouse of the Florentine Galleries. The volume is also an opportunity to retrace the history and vicissitudes related to Caravaggio's painting, executed for Ciriaco Mattei in 1602. To this theme is dedicated a long essay by Gianni Papi, which reviews the critical and collecting history of the Capture (crucial painting of the activity of Merisi), also examining the latest events related to the various versions of the subject.
The volume also contains an essay by Maria Sframeli, who rediscovered a very interesting copy of the Florentine Galleries; the scholar recovers its history and arrival in Florence in the Lorraine collections.
The volume ends with contributions by Lisa Venerosi Pesciolini (who oversaw the restoration of the Florentine canvas) and by Anna Pelagotti and Emanuela Massa (who report on the analysis of the work).
