Orsanmichele
The official guide to the Museum of the historical Church of Orsanmichele in Florence.
The monumental building was born to be a wheat market and was then transformed in a church to honour the miraculous virtues of a Madonna that was painted inside and became one of the Florentine Gothic masterpieces.
Inside, magnificent frescoes decorate the walls and the wonderful tabernacle by Orcagna stands out around the Enthroned Madonna by Nardo di Cione.
On the outside the copies of the tabernacles made by famous artists such as Donatello, while the originals are jealously kept in the museum.
