Piero Niro
The composition Note per Lipizer (“Notes for Lipizer”) begins with a succession of 15 notes deriving from a short fragment of the third part of Studio n. 18 (Variations, “Sostenuto”) published in La tecnica superiore del violino by Rodolfo Lipizer. From the first three notes of the fragment (F, E, A flat), there originates a process of development, transformation, and aggregation of small interval cells mostly made up of the succession of semitones and diminished fourths (or major thirds). These small sequences of notes combine into broader figures, which start from the model given by the fragment’s three figurations (the sixteenth note triplets one, the thirty-second arpeggio one, and the following demisemiquaver quadruplets one), change and constitute the material for the construction of the different sections of the composition.
