Dante (Italian)

The series goes on with a volume which is entirely dedicated to the major Italian poet and one of the greatest in the world. A straightforward text follows Dante Alighieri's human, political and, of course, literary vicissitudes. A "portrait" that highlights every single aspect of his activity, which seems even prodigious, if we think it is to be situated in the exile years.
The Divina Commedia, widely discussed in this volume, is peerless expression of medieval culture, but it also takes part, together with Petrarca's and Boccaccio's works, to the deep cultural renewal that will soon lead to Humanism and, consequently, to modern civilisation.
Time passes but doesn't scratch the deep core of Dante's thought.
His reflections on the great matters of ethics (freedom, justice) and politics (the State, the Church, the individual) still have a close relation with nowadays debates.
