I manoscritti della Biblioteca Comunale di San Gimignano

This volume contains the cataloguing of the manuscript collection of the Biblioteca Comunale (Municipal Library) of San Gimignano.

Ninety-eight manuscripts have been catalogued and will be included in Manus Online (MOL) - the database maintained by the ICCU including the description and digitisation of manuscripts preserved in Italian public, ecclesiastical and private libraries.

The richness and importance of the manuscripts section of the San Gimignano library is testified by many works: the humanist Mattia Lupi donated his library to the town in 1449, with very precious manuscripts, and so did the promoter and founder of the Biblioteca Comunale, Ugo Nomi Venerosi Pesciolini, who had the intelligence and foresight to preserve and collect specimens that would otherwise have been lost.

The volume is preceded by two essays that analyse and place the collection in its historical and librarian context and it is completed by a section of images of the main works.
