Le arie per tromba concertante di Alessandro Scarlatti

The study that Gianluca Feccia has dedicated to the arias for concert with trumpet solo by Alessandro Scarlatti is an exemplary case; starting from a careful survey of the manuscript sources, this work, of considerable breadth and depth, has highlighted the characteristics and stylistic features of Scarlet writing from the point of view of musicus praticus: a perspective not always present in musicological literature, at least to the extent that would be desirable, but which is instead a potential strength of high musical training.

The section dedicated to the critical edition of some arias is decidedly musicological. The choice fell on the operatic repertoire, which, moreover, offered the opportunity for some interesting observations on the relationship between instrumental choices and the dramaturgy of opera seria, giving decisive value to the use of the trumpet in that context.
