Lorenzo Sbaffi. Sonata n. 1
Sonata No. 1, composed in 2004 upon a commission by the Terra dei Teatri Association, is distinguished by a clean, minimalist and sometimes ironic compositional style.
The Sonata's four movements are joyful and fresh, mixing lyricism and unsteady rhythms.
The first movement, Moderato, is a cantabile lyricism that seeks simplicity and transparency, while the Adagietto is meditative and melancholy.
The wrong Minuetto in the style of Haydn plays with the classical form, making the ternary rhythm of the minuet irregular.
Finally, the Vivace Finale explodes into a dancing energy.
The composer has previously published Capricci Fantasia for solo violin (2019) and in 2021 composed Sonata No. 2 for violin and piano.
